POINTS OF VIEW: Despair at plight of dogs

I WRITE with regard the recent letter you published from a correspondent who witnessed a woman and her daughter repeatedly hitting a lurcher-type dog Castlemilk Shopping Arcade.

A few years back, in Glasgow Central Station, I witnessed a small pup following behind its two 'masters'.

The pup's head was down, spirit totally broken - a picture of absolute dejection.

I regret I never rescued the pup. The two wouldn't even have noticed their victim had disappeared and anybody witnessing my theft would have cheered.

I wonder what happened to that pup and I wonder what will happen to the wee dog in Castlemilk Shopping Arcade.

Photo finish

Thank goodness common sense has prevailed and Subway commuters can now take photos without the fear of a £1000 fine.

It beats me why it was ever a threat in the first place.

The Glasgow Subway is the third oldest in the world and therefore is a historic structure.

Why shouldn't it be photographed?

Raise our Games

Well done to the Olympic organisers for banning the sale of unapproved goods.

There's nothing worse than attending major events to find the usual 'tartan tat' and 'greasy spoon' burger vans selling the same rubbish.

Prestigious events such as our own forthcoming Commonwealth Games and the Olympics deserve better - but let's not have the goods over-priced, please.

Watch on wards

I'M pleased to see MSP Drew Smith has called on Nicola Sturgeon to intervene after the damning report into elderly care at the Royal Infirmary in Glasgow.

It's a disgrace to think conditions are so poor at this hospital.

The Health Minister has to act now to ensure there's no repeat of these problems coming to the surface in the future.
