We have a fantastic Victorian heritage that we seem intent on destroying.

The Custom House would indeed make a wonderful frontage for a hotel, on a prime riverside site, but what is being proposed, would cast a shadow right across St Enoch Square and beyond.

Let's have an open competition. With the wealth of architectural talent in Scotland, someone will come up with a better design than this 1960's monolith.

Back in black

I AGREE with the New Glasgow Society (Evening Times, April 21), the proposed hotel will dominate the Glasgow skyline – it looks like someone it is made out of scaffolding.

Maybe just keeping it plain black glass (with maybe a bit of black granite?) would make it look classier, and taking a few floors off might make everyone happy.

Bus stop plea

IT IS good to see raised kerb stones being installed at bus stops to make it easier for wheelchairs and prams to access buses.

But why, on Glasgow Road, in Paisley, are there one or two lower kerb stones at every bus stop, making a smaller stopping area, and then putting the bus stop pole right in the centre, making it impossible to get on or off unless the driver is spot on where he stops?

Hope for roads

The roads network is a major factor in our city's commercial viability.

I would hope that whatever party or parties that are victorious in next month's elections would continue to invest in the repair and regular maintenance of not only the carriageways but also every other aspect of our roads infrastructure so ensuring our city's economic future and continuing prosperity.
