POINTS OF VIEW: Slow down, drivers

IT would be fantastic if the efforts of the children taking part in Giant Walking Bus walk were successful (Evening Times, June 21).

Sadly, it's going to take a lot more for drivers to take notice.

I live in a residential area with small local shops and a small play park close by, which is very popular with the children of the area.

I stick to the speed limit, and we have a 20's Plenty zone.

Can you imagine my horror when I am overtaken by selfish drivers who like to use the road as a racetrack? No consideration is given to children going to school or wanting to play at the park.

There is also a speed sign that will flash when you are not driving to a safe speed but like all the speed signs around our schools, it doesn't work

Come on, drivers, listen to what children are trying to tell you – one day it could be a child of yours who is injured or taken away from you.

Stock in trade

HAS anyone else noticed the subtle reduction in the humble stock cube?

A miniscule triangular sliver has been taken from each of the four sides of the cube.

There must be literally millions of cubes made daily. If you add the millions of slivers saved it must come to a sizeable amount of new cubes.

Needless to say, the cost stays the same!
