GLASGOW'S schools are great supporters of Streets Ahead.

They run litter picks, create community gardens and organise road safety campaigns as part of our campaign.

This Christmas, four Drumchapel primaries have worked together to create a community calendar for next year.

And their efforts impressed local people so much, they held an awards ceremony for them.

Staff at Glasgow Housing Association's Drumchapel office invited youngsters from four local schools – Langfaulds, St Clare's, Antonine and Camstradden primaries – to submit artwork for a calendar competition.

Tenants chose the winning 12 and the community calendar will be sent out to every GHA tenant and school in the area.

The winning youngsters, along with their parents and teachers, attended a special presentation at GHA's Drumchapel office to officially launch the calendar.

The young artists each received a £25 Asda voucher – and the Parent Teacher Association of each school also received a £500 donation.

Karen McLaughlin, GHA's housing manager for Drumchapel, said: "The calendar competition helps young people feel part of the community.

"It was really popular – and the quality of the work was fantastic."

The winners were: Brooke Smith, Michael Hunter and Alex Dover, from Antonine Primary; Leah Newman, Devon Newman and Abbie Johnston, from Camstradden Primary; Tai McIlveenn, Shelby Nelson and Scott Holder, from Langfaulds Primary; and Jade Hughes, Dionne Donnelly and Leann Jancorda, from St Clare's Primary.
