STREETS Ahead, our award-winning campaign which aims to build a better Glasgow, has taken a festive twist this week.

Inspired by our drive to help communities work together to improve life for everyone, tenants and staff of Glasgow Housing Association have worked hard to bring Christmas cheer to people all over the city.

From organising neighbourhood events which bring residents together, to sending Christmas hampers to provide a little extra help to families, they sum up the spirit of our campaign – and the season.

Gordon Sloan, chairman of GHA (which, along with Clean Glasgow, Strathclyde Fire and Rescue and the City Charitable Trust is one of our high profile Streets Ahead partners), said: "Our aim at GHA is to create better homes, better lives, and a better Glasgow.

"Our staff and tenants are working all over the city to help people come together to celebrate their neighbourhoods and make their communities better places to live.

"It's important for people to have pride in where they come from – and that's why we're proud to support the Evening Times' award-winning Streets Ahead campaign."

At Mansewood Community Centre, GHA helped residents enjoy a night of festive fun.

Carol-singing, crafts and Christmas gifts and stalls from local groups drew big crowds to the popular centre, which runs dance classes, a football team, a textile group and an allotments group.

Councillor Stephen Curran officially opened the night, which was also attended by Bailie Josephine Docherty.

GHA housing officer Janice Ralston, who organised the event, said: "The community turned up to show its support for the centre. The numbers were fantastic. It was real celebration of the community and everyone enjoyed it."
