Obviously the council is still ticking over, and providing services, so there must have been plenty of scope for reductions to be made.
One wonders how many "non jobs" there are in the council, and how much more saving potential there is.
Even when there is potential to make money, through the likes of City Parking, their track record is not very good.

HAS Scots Labour leader Johann Lamont thought at what level she would start making people pay for services?
This would be a costly civil service action.
The only way for people with larger incomes to pay more is from income tax, and unfortunately this is controlled by Westminster.
The day we have a independent Scotland we can then sort out that tax problem.

I WORKED for R. H. Kennedy's Pollok Creamery as a delivery boy in 1935 (Memories, September 29) and my plan at that time was to stay on at Strathbungo School and from there enroll at Glasgow University.
However, my Mother had other plans for me as she needed my meagre earnings to augment our family income.

I would love to hear from readers who have any information on a Glasgow photographer called Len Factor.
He had a studio in Bentinck Street, and then one in Paisley Road West, and took a great many photographs at the old Glasgow Empire.
It may be that Len Factor was not his real name, 'lens factor' is a photographic term.
I would love to find out what happened to all the photographs he took, especially the ones from events at the Glasgow Empire.
