THE fashion world's future designers showed off their talent – from children's wear to wedding dresses.

The annual Glasgow Caledonian University Fashion Show gives students a chance to showcase their original designs.

This year promises to be bigger and better than ever with the rising stars showing new creations in the latest shapes, colours and fabrics.

Students from the BA (Hons) Fashion Business programme will launch the 2013 collection during two catwalk shows in the University's Saltire Centre.

This year's shows, which take place on Thursday at 6pm and 7.30pm, will include original designs, including children's coats for Bluebells of Scotland, plus a showcase of new concepts in craft textiles by third year students.

Sally Porciani, from Bluebells of Scotland, said: "Bluebells has been delighted to experience the creativity of GCU's young fashion students.

"They have displayed their invaluable innovative designs working on a Bluebells brief and we look forward to seeing the results at the GCU Fashion Show."

Final year students will unveil a range of bridal 'toile' dresses, which have been designed for bridal wear retailer Eleganza Sposa in the themes of Dolce Vita, Classica, Principessa and Romantica.

Linda Shearer, senior lecturer in Fashion at GCU said: "It is invaluable for us to be able to work with industry and the Eleganza Sposa project gave final year students a real-world insight into the factors involved in designing a creative and commercial range of bridal gowns.

"The students were very enthusiastic about the brief and rose to the challenge to design for their given theme.

"The competition winners of each theme will be revealed at the show, and will go on to have their designs made up in fine bridal fabrics as part of Eleganza Sposa's own brand collection."

Anna Cirignaco, owner and managing director of Eleganza Sposa, added: "I have been so impressed by the standard of work that has been displayed by the Fashion Business students at GCU.

"The work produced by the students is fashion forward, innovative and professional and so I'm sure the fashion show will be an event not to be missed."

This year the show is being held during GCU's Caledonian Creates week, an annual exhibition of work by students and staff which displays innovations in research, consultancy and teaching in the creative industries.

Diane Cook, design lecturer at GCU, said: "This is an important opportunity for students to show the world what they are designing in a professional way.

"We are able to broadcast the event to a global audience through social media, so we have to ensure a very high standard of work combining creativity with wearability for a wide range of markets and occasions."

Caledonian Creates is open to the public from tomorrow to Sunday in GCU's Saltire Centre on its Glasgow City Centre campus.
