YOUR VIEW - Time for blazer bonus

IT was interesting to read (May 29) about the return of school uniforms at John Paul Academy.

Many schools now want their pupils to wear uniform.

Sadly, the school clothing grant has stayed at less than £50 for more than 10 years.

Should this not be increased to reflect today's uniform prices?

I WAS moved when I read (May 30) of the horrific abuse suffered by Mr McCabe at the hands of a senior prison officer.

However, I was not really surprised to further read, that boys who had reported their abuse to the police were not believed.

The very people who should have protected these boys preferred to turn a blind eye. Absolutely shameful.

I wish Mr McCabe and his family the best of luck and think he was very brave indeed for speaking out.

In a recent Memories photo you said railway lines carried trains to the Finnieston Crane to be lifted onto ships for export.

I was in a team who took engines down the High Street and along to the crane. We always took them by road.

I'M always reading bad news stories about our utilities firms, so hats off to Scottish Water for their excellent service.

I noticed a water leak and thought I'd better report it.

The Scottish Water website was a dawdle to use and, within five minutes of reporting the leak, I got an e-mail back.

The very next day a Scottish Water man, Vincent, was at my door to investigate and remedy the problem.

How's that for service. Perhaps if more of the utilities were still in public ownership we could expect the same level of service from our gas, electricity and phone suppliers.
