MORE than 1000 people applied for just 70 jobs at a new Glasgow restaurant.
Latin American-themed chain Las Iguanas is opening its first outlet in the city next month.
And bosses said they were overwhelmed by the number of applications for the 70 full and part-time positions.
The restaurant is currently being fitted-out at the site of two former retail units, Aspecto clothing and the Sony Centre, in West Nile Street.
The site is across the road from Italian eaterie Carluccio's, which was founded by celebrity chef Antonio Carluccio.
Los Iguanas manager Kyle Steel said that there were still a number of positions to be filled, including bar workers, hosts and chefs.
Kyle, who is no stranger to the Glasgow restaurant scene after he helped launch Corinthian, Mansion House and Alea, said: "The response has just been amazing,
"I have never known anything like it before.
"The quality of applications we have received so far has been very high but there are still positions available.
"Glasgow is going to have a lot to celebrate this summer with the Commonwealth Games, and there couldn't be a better time to be in the hospitality industry."
The restaurant plans to open on March 3.
The chain, founded in Bristol in 1991, is now the UK's leading Latin American restaurant group.
