A NEW steak restaurant got a glamorous makeover thanks to a Glasgow design firm.

Timorous Beasties, an interior design company run by two GSA graduates, was commissioned to create an installation at Alston Bar and Beef.

The 80-seater restaurant is due to open in the basement of Central Station later this month and the owners wanted a traffic-stopping artwork to grab commuters' attention.

Hawkmoths, magpies and thistles feature heavily in the 26ft mural, which was hand drawn in Glasgow.

Alistair McAuley, owner of Timorous Beasties, said: "We had a great time playing with the scale of things for Alston.

"As we are using the latest in digital printing technology, everything will look just as good up close as it will standing outside, looking in."

Architects at Jestico + Whiles were responsible for the overall look of the restaurant and felt a Timorous Beasties artwork would fit perfectly with their plans.

Alex Salussolia, managing director of Glendola, the parent group that owns the restaurant said: "This has been a wonderful collaboration between two city businesses and has resulted in a stunning design."
