STAR bakers are being invited to show off their skills at an event in Kelvingrove.

As part of the Festival of Museums, Kelvingrove Art Gallery will tomorrow host a tea party and hold its own bake-off competition.

Contestants are invited to create a showstopper inspired by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and the Glasgow Style.

Kelvingrove is home to the Mackintosh Glasgow Style Gallery which features works by the popular architect and designer.

Entries will be judged by Alison Brown, the museum's curator of European decorative art who will be looking at the design of the cakes, while Stefan Spicknell, left, of the Cottonrake Bakery on Great Western Road will judge on taste.

Visitors will also be asked to vote for the best design and the winner will be announced at 3pm.

Those more interested in eating cake than baking it will get tea and cakes accompanied by entertainment from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Kelvingrove's central hall between 10.30am and noon and from 2pm to 3.30pm.

Tea party tickets cost £5 per person and should be booked in advance by calling 0141 353 8000 or on-line at www.glasgowconcerthalls.com.
