Sometimes, combining two foodstuffs can be an absolute dream. Cult foods the like the cronut (croissant-doughnut), or the bruffin (brioche and muffin, of course), spring to mind as some of the greats.
So how about combining doughnuts and bagels? That’s what a bakery in Virginia, USA, has done, and the results are dividing social media.
The ‘Everything Bagel Doughnut’ was invented in 2015 by husband and wife team Brian and Pin Chanthapanya of B Doughnut. They wanted to bring a type of Portuguese doughnut, called Malasada, to the American public, adding a Hawaiian twist.
Using dough which takes 12 hours to make, their savoury version of the round doughnuts are filled with cream cheese and either salmon, bacon or chives.
Now, as the company has opened a pop-up stall in Washington, the Everything Bagel Doughnut has been thrust into the international spotlight, with fans and detractors take to social media to share their opinions on the hearty hybrid.
“The customers coming to our Washington pop-up are all very excited to try them and they love how it’s different,” said Brian Chanthapanya. “Some are hesitant and not sure how they feel about it.”
Over on Twitter, the debate is just as polarised.
Such a millennial thing. If you want a bagel get a bagel, if you want a donut get a donut, we don't need to start combining foods

I'm going to say—right here, right now—before all of Twitter:
I would totally eat a bagel doughnut.

Another user had a question on what nickname should be given to such an invention.
Are they doughgels ("doe-gulls") or bagnuts ("bayg-nuts")?
I vote bagnuts.
