Popular city centre Italian eatery La Lanterna has opened up a second restaurant in the West End of Glasgow after months of public anticipation.

The other little piece of Italy is nestled in Great Western Road at the site where the Giavanazzi family had been serving up Italian food at their renowned restaurant, La Parmigiana, for four decades.

Now, as the family looks forward to retiring, staff at La Lanterna West End say they’re “honoured to be moving in as our friends move out.”

Staff celebrated the big opening at the weekend by sharing some tweets on their new Twitter page, including one post showing the team leaping into the air in a Boomerang clip.

The Evening Times previously reported how the Glasgow’s oldest family-run Italian restaurant made a name for itself ever since it opened in 1970 at the foot of Hope Street.

The establishment was named Best Italian Restaurant at the Glasgow Restaurant Awards 2012, and Scotland’s Best Italian Restaurant in The Official Scottish Entertainment Guide Awards in 2013.
