Everyone’s favourite bakery is set to get Glasgow in the festive spirit this week by giving out free Christmas pasties.

Greggs has announced its hugely popular festive bakes will be hitting shelves from Thursday.

However, those keen to be the first to get their hands on one free of charge should head along to the Buchanan Galleries branch at 11.30am tomorrow (Wednesday).

There are only 100 available so it’s advised that pasty fiends head along in plenty of time to get theirs.

For many, the arrival of the festive bake - made with chicken, sage and onion stuffing, bacon, and a sage and cranberry sauce - is eagerly awaited and a symbol that the holiday season is officially underway.

Just last month, the popular bakery chain announced it is trialling a service to take pasties and sausage rolls direct to hungry customers - and it could come to Glasgow.

Bosses have teamed up with the firm UberEATS to offer the service through its app, offering delivery up to one mile away from participating shops.

The companies have set a £2.50 delivery charge with no minimum spend.

The delivery menu features breakfasts, hot and cold drinks, bakes and sausages rolls, freshly-made sandwiches and sweet treats.

If the trial in Newcastle runs successfully, the delivery service could be rolled out to other cities.

Greggs’ chief executive Roger Whiteside said: “This latest innovation will enable customers to enjoy our great-tasting, good-value food wherever they are, offering them the ultimate convenience.”
