A POPULAR pizza chain could open up another city centre branch if planning permission is granted.

Paesano Pizza want to build a restaurant on Waterloo Street in Glasgow city centre.

The restaurant group have identified a space on the ground floor of the SSE/Scottish Hydro building at Hope Street and Waterloo Road.

In a planning statement, the group said: "The Paesano Group is already well known in the city, having a well established and highly acclaimed restaurant in Millar Street and another equally impressive restaurant in the west end of the city on Great Western Road.

"Both these restaurants have, in a short space of time become firm favourites with Glaswegians and visitors alike and have already won awards and according to a poll conducted by the Stylist Magazine in conjunction with Trip Advisor, is the best pizza in the UK, in the process beating many well established London genuine Neopolitan pizza restaurants.

"The company have an ambitious expansion programme for the brand which will initially see a Paesano Pizza restaurant in most Scottish Cities. These are quality outlets offering the very best of cuisine, and this new proposal will continue that theme."

A decision is expected on the plans by March this year.
