A MORRISONS wine that costs just a tenner has been voted the best supermarket tipple at the ‘Oscars’ of the wine industry.
The supermarket’s Mastercraft Sauvignon Blanc was awarded 97 points out of a 100 beating all other supermarket wines at the 2018 Decanter World Wine Awards.
It also won one of Decanter’s prized platinum awards, which is only awarded to the very highest-scoring wines.
The wine is currently on offer from £10 to £7.
Produced from hand-pruned vines in the Central Wairau Valley, Marlborough, New Zealand - the Morrisons tipple has extraordinary elderflower, passionfruit and gooseberry aromas.
Only 17 wines scored higher, including £200 bottles like posh Domaine de la Vougeraie Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2016.
Morrisons also won Platinum for its £7 Ruby Port – one of the cheapest wines to ever scoop the accolade.
No other UK supermarket won a Platinum medal.
Clive Donaldson, Morrisons wine expert, said: “We’ve worked with hard-working grape-growers and winemakers at this vineyard to create a wine that not only tastes great, but is affordable for customers.”
