SCOTLAND boss George Burley was informed yesterday by Kris Boyd that he no longer wants to play for him.

The Rangers striker left a message on Burley's answerphone on Saturday night after he was snubbed in the 0-0 draw with Norway.

Boyd also spoke with SFA chief Gordon Smith - who used to act as his agent - but it was Sunday afternoon before Burley got back to him, and there was no attempt made to talk him around.

Boyd has played just 28 minutes of the six matches since Burley took over as Scotland coach in January.

Burley said: "I've spoken with Kris and he told me that he was disappointed not to play on Saturday or in the last couple of matches. He said he did not want to be considered for future squads so he can concentrate on his club career."

Smith hopes Boyd will have a change of heart, but knows it's another damaging blow after Lee McCulloch's decision to quit last month.

"We must always respect a player when he makes that decision," said Smith.

"If Kris Boyd is saying it's because of George Burley then that's unfortunate.

"He may change his mind and hopefully he will as he'd certainly be an important player to have in the Scotland squad."
