SHOP owners or licensees who sell alcohol to under-18s should be named and shamed, a Glasgow MSP said today.
Paul Martin wants details of rogue traders put on the internet.
Urging a government crackdown, the Spring-burn Labour MSP said it was time to get tough.
He added: "I am appalled that in the past four years only three rogue retailers have been prosecuted in Glasgow for selling alcohol to children.
"The reality of street life in Glasgow is that many more premises are repeatedly breaking the law by selling alcohol to under-18s.
"Shops and supermarkets which sell alcohol to children should know they will automatically lose their licence and be named and shamed.
"Taking action against the harm that alcohol causes should be a priority and this is a practical measure that will show that selling to children will not be tolerated in Scotland."
Mr Martin's call comes as MSPs debate a Tory motion criticising the government's plans to raise the age for buying alcohol in off-sales from 18 to 21.
Tory deputy leader Murdo Fraser said the government's plans were "ludicrous".
Mr Fraser said: "What a pity that this proposal has stolen the headlines and dominated the debate when we should be addressing issues around which we are likely to achieve some degree of consensus.
"It's wrong in principle to raise the age which alcohol can be bought from 18 to 21. We have problem drinkers at every age in society.
"To target 18 to 21-year-olds suggests that group alone has a problem which does not apply to other sectors of society.
"This proposal is discriminatory and there's simply no evidence to back it up."
