GUS MACPHERSON will pull out the stops for the rest of the month in a bid to improve his team.
The St Mirren boss has been working hard on several deals to try and inject fresh talent before the transfer window closes in three weeks.
So far, he has been unable to add to the four he signed before pre-season began - Craig Dargo, Gary Mason, Will Haining and keeper Mark Howard.
But MacPherson said: "We'd love to bring in one or two others, but we've got to make sure they will improve the squad first and foremost. I'm happy with the signings we have made so far, but every manager is always looking for more.
"We are making calls and looking at options, however it's not as easy as just saying we like him and signing the player."
One man Saints won't be signing is former Israeli under-21 striker Roy Dayan, despite being impressed with him in training.
MacPherson was furious to learn that his club, Maccabi Tel Aviv, are demanding a fee despite the player's agent insisting he was available for free.
Gus said: "I was informed by the agent he was available for free . I took him on his word and invited the player over.
"As it turns out, that isn't the case and I've contacted the agent concerned, who is based in Israel, and made my feelings on the matter clear."
St Mirren head to Ibrox tomorrow to take on Rangers and MacPherson knows how tough a task is will prove for his team.
He said: "They've not lost a goal in their opening three competitive games and won them all so they are on form.
"It's always going to be tough there and Rangers have improved dramatically under Walter Smith, but it's up to us to try and keep them out, work hard and give it our best shot.
"You try to be positive. You tell the players don't fear it, we said that the whole of last season. They've earned the right to play at this level."
