DETECTIVES are hunting armed raiders who threatened staff with guns at two Glasgow bookies.

The men fled with hundreds of pounds after they targeted branches of William Hill and Coral in the West End in separate incidents.

The latest thefts mean four armed robberies have been carried out on bookies in the area in the last 12 days.

Two counter staff at William Hill in Kelvingrove Street, were threatened by a gunman yesterday around 4.15pm.

The raider ran down Derby Lane onto Sauchiehall Street with a three-figure sum.

The employees, a 22-year-old man and 20-year-old woman, escaped injury but were left badly shaken.

The second robbery took place almost five hours later, around 9.10, at Coral's in Great Western Road.

Again, the raider threatened two members of staff with a firearm.

He then escaped, running away in the direction of Napiershall Street, with hundreds of pounds.

Detective Inspector Willie Park said today: "Both premises were quite busy, and I would ask anyone who has not yet spoken to police to come forward.

"These two robberies are not being linked. Inquiries are, however, ongoing to establish if the first robbery is linked to previous raids in the local area.

"I would also ask shop staff in the West End of Glasgow to be extra-vigilant due to the recent spate of robberies."

William Hill's in Byres Road was hit last week. And a 34-year-old man is in custody over an alleged robbery at Ladbrokes in Dumbarton Road, Partick on August 7.
