LUCKY Wendy Brown knows better than most the level of luxury which will be provided in Glasgow's newest hotel.

LUCKY Wendy Brown knows better than most the level of luxury which will be provided in Glasgow's newest hotel.

Last week, the Dubai-based Jumeirah Group announced it is to run a £125million, six-star deluxe hotel in the International Financial Services District.

The company owns 10 luxury hotels around the world including the seven-star Burj Al Arab in Dubai.

A couple of years ago Wendy was working as front office manager in the Radisson Hotel in Glasgow when she won a Hospitality Industry Trust scholarship.

The charity recognises the work of emerging talent in the industry and funds training in some of the top establishments in the world.

Wendy, who entered the profession when she was 32 after years in office administration, was told she was being sent to Dubai to train in four of the hotels run by the Jumeirah Group.

She said: "When I found out I was going to Dubai for three weeks I was elated. I could not believe it."

When she arrived in the oil capital Wendy discovered she was to spend part of her time working in the Burj Al Arab, which last year was voted the world's best hotel.

She said: "It is designed like a billowing sail and you either love it or hate it but you can't ignore it.

"There is real gold in the lobby. In the Burj Al Arab if it looks like gold, it is gold.

"All the Jumeirah hotels are breathtaking because they are the height of luxury.

"From the minute you walk in the door every single thing you need is catered for.

"The bedrooms, the lobbies and the restaurants are all something extra special which you don't experience in this country."

Wendy, 38, who now works as front of house manager at the exclusive five-star Cameron House Hotel overlooking Loch Lomond, said: "I have never seen anything like the Jumeirah Group hotels.

"I was absolutely delighted when I heard they had chosen Glasgow to open their first hotel in Scotland.

"They give real attention to customer satisfaction and even have a guest services department which has a team of people dealing only with guest complaints."

She added: "We are very lucky to be having a hotel group like Jumeirah coming to Glasgow."
