AN asylum-seeking family today pleaded to be allowed to stay in the Glasgow community they've called home for six years.

Halil and Songul Demirci and their two children have lived in Dennistoun since fleeing Turkey in 2001.

But on Monday they were taken from their house by Home Office staff and now face being deported tomorrow.

The couple are worried about the impact this could have on their children - daughter Donduzilan, 6, has lived in Scotland her whole life while son Sezer, 12, is settled in school and speaks with a Scottish accent.

Campaigners fear the family could be tortured, imprisoned or even murdered if they're sent back to Turkey.

Government officials there have already issued a warrant for Mr Demirci's arrest due to his political beliefs.

The family are booked on to a flight tomorrow, but protesters were today still hoping their deportation could be blocked.

Phil Jones, of campaigning group, the Ibrox Unity Centre, said: "Sezer phoned to say they had been moved out of Dungavel and taken on a 10-hour journey to Tinsley House, near Gatwick.

"He is terrified they are going to be put on a flight to Turkey. This is a wee boy who loves his school. He has been going to Alexandra Parade Primary for six years now.

"The Demircis are exactly the type of family who should be allowed to stay. They are so well integrated."

A bid for a judicial review of their case was being lodged today by city lawyer Fraser Latta.

If successful, they will be granted a full hearing in the Court of Session and allowed to return to Glasgow in the meantime.

The Demirci family were driven out of their home, near Istanbul, by government officials.

Halil's involvement with Kurdish independence party PKK make him a target for abuse.
