IT'S ludicrous that no legislation exists to control housing factors.
IT'S ludicrous that no legislation exists to control housing factors.
As our investigation will show, too many of them in Glasgow are a law unto themselves.
The worst among them have a record of shoddy and shameful practices including excessive charges, poor workmanship and expensive repairs.
Their duty is supposed to be to look after their clients' property ensuring best value at all times.
The reality is often the opposite and, for some, the lack of regulation is a licence to print money.
Many of them are also guilty of bullying and resort to penalty charges and court action too readily.
This must change and Parliament must back Maryhill MSP Patricia Ferguson's bill to crack down on rogue factors.
Freeze must not affect services
FREEZING the council tax for the third year in a row is very good news for people in Glasgow.
Unlike last year when jobs and service cuts followed the freeze, the government has put up cash to fund it so that should not be the case this time.
Council leaders are right to claim the city is efficiently run.
But they'll have more money to spend on services if they improve the rate of council tax collection which at 86% lags well behind other local authorities.
