PLANS have been unveiled for a £27million regeneration project for North Glasgow.
PLANS have been unveiled for a £27million regeneration project for North Glasgow.
The Broomfield Road development will bring 198 homes to the 16-acre site.
The project is a partnership between Alexander Morton Homes, North Glasgow Housing Association and City Building.
Councill leader Steven Purcell, who was joined at the project launch by 50 City Building apprentices, said: "This project will make a huge difference to the lives of people in the area, not just through improvements to the physical infrastructure, but also through the social legacy that the associated jobs and apprenticeship opportunities will bring. It's a perfect example of how partnerships between the public and private sectors can lead to real benefits for ordinary people."
The site forms part of the Red Road Transformational Regeneration area and will be developed in two phases.
A total of 122 homes, including 52 for rent, 50 for sale and 20 for low-cost home ownership will be built in phase one.
They will be a mix of two and three-bedroom detached, terraced, semi-detached homes and wheelchair-accessible housing. The mix for the remaining 76 homes to be built in Phase Two has still to be determined.
City Building will construct the house structures using timber kits manufactured at its Royal Strathclyde Blindcraft Industries (RSBi) workshop less than a mile away.
North Glasgow Housing Association will allocate the 52 homes for rent and 20 for low-cost home ownership.
The 20 homes available to buy on a shared equity basis will by sold through the Scottish Govern-ment's LIFT scheme, which offers eligible buyers up to a 40% grant. With a 40% grant it is likely that properties will start at £66,000 for two bedrooms and £76,000 for three bedrooms.
A total of 42 workmen from City Building and 20 apprentices will work on the project.
Sales Director at Alexander Morton Homes Alex Benson said: "North Glasgow Housing Association and City Building have proven track-records in delivering successful housing and regeneration projects, and we are looking forward to working with them to create this genuine mixed-tenure development."
Chief Executive of North Glasgow Housing Association Robert Tamburrini said: "This partnership will make a major contribution to the regeneration of Red Road and bring new opportunities for tenants and homeowners alike.
"We are committed to bringing real and lasting change to the area.
"As well as providing affordable homes for rent it will ensure that first-time buyers and people on low incomes are given much-needed assistance as they try to get on the property ladder.
"In the current financial climate it is vital that we continue building new homes to help sustain jobs and keep the economy moving.
"That is exactly what the association and its partners are hoping to achieve."
Managing Director of City Building Willie Docherty said: "Broomfield Road will not only provide new homes for local families, it will also ensure that employment is safeguarded and created in the north of the city through our apprenticeship programme."
