I HAVE just returned home after a week's tour of Scotland.

I visited the Royal Yacht Britannia, had a cruise on Loch Katrine, toured Stirling Castle etc.

While I was here, I decided to look around Glasgow – I have fond memories of the Barrowland in the 1960s while I did contract work there.

I revisited in the 1980s, while working at Ravencraig.

There is none better than your Riverside Museum and Glasgow is the best place for the Commonwealth Games.

I was recently in Cardonald Library and would commend folk to visit the excellently laid out annual photography exhibition by the Penilee Photography Club.

There is something for everyone in the small ground floor exhibition, but even more on the first floor.

Congratulations to all those involved in taking such wonderful photos and displaying them so effectively.

I compliment JH (Letters, September 24) about the council's daft plan to issue fines to folk who overload their bins.

If the council decides to enforce such fines, then this will just exacerbate the problems of fly-tipping and littering.

JUST because Glasgow missed the worst of the recent wild weather, we shouldn't be complacent.

Judging by the state of the gulleys and street drains near my home, it won't take a monsoon to create serious flooding. These drains and gulleys are only going to become more blocked as Autumn approaches.

Much like the problem with our potholed streets, the council seems to have forgotten that a little regular maintenance goes a long way.

I cannot recall the last time I saw anyone sweeping the gulleys or jetting the drains. As it is, I clean my own, with a rake, to stop my front path from flooding.
