It's great news that Glasgow Airport is to get new routes.

Unfortunately the future for Prestwick Airport isn't looking as good, as it is almost 100% dependant on Ryanair for its passenger flights.

The airport is only being serviced by two of the airline's planes for the winter season from November through to March, with a greatly reduced number of flights.

Ryanair was recently reported to be in talks with Glasgow Airport with a view to opening a base there, so if that happens I am afraid Prestwick will cease to exist as a passenger airport.

Having two airports in the west of Scotland is unsustainable but it will be a sad day if Prestwick closes.

Not welcome

Basil Fawlty lives on in the guise of a yellow jacketed jobs-worth "operating" as customer services at Glasgow Central last Thursday.

Both ticket booths were closed because, as he shouted at an Italian family, "He's goat to hiv a tea break.

"If yae don't understand go tae the main ticket office upstairs."

As they tried to operate the coin ticket machine without assistance, I tried to help and explained to the "heavies" at the turnstiles.

Welcome to the city of culture and Commonwealth Games host.

Ciggie battle

More than half of shopkeepers in Scotland are said to be aware of smuggled tobacco sold in their area.

And police say the same shopkeepers know about "test purchasing". When caught out their licence for selling ciggies should be binned.

Aircrew search

I would like to contact the only survivor, or any of his relatives, of an RAF Halifax bomber that crashed near Welney, Norfolk on April 25, 1944.

Rear gunner F/Sgt John Anderson was born in Glasgow in 1924.
