ONE of the most lasting impressions visitors to any city leave with, alongside how friendly the local people are, is how clean the streets are.
Efforts have been made in recent years in Glasgow to ensure the city centre is as clean as possible to show the city at its best, with fines handed out to people who carelessly drop litter.
This is an issue that everyone in the city can really play a part in to ensure problems are reported and those who refuse to accept their responsibilities are brought to account.
Glasgow will be home to many new visitors in the coming years with the Commonwealth Games as well as the many conferences that bring people in from the UK and around the world which are a huge boost to the economy.
Part of the strategy is to secure repeat visits and only by ensuring our streets are clean and friendly will people want to come back.
The effort must be extended out from the city centre and into the communities where the efforts of people to improve their environment through campaigns such as Streets Ahead can be undone by the actions of selfish people who dump rubbish or let dogs foul the streets.
A clean environment improves quality of life for everyone and this is a campaign we can all get behind and ensure our city always looks its best.
