WOW!

I feel like I've been on a bit of a roller-coaster ride this week.

It ranged from turn-ing on the Christmas lights in George Square in front of 15,000 people to performing at the Glasgow Hilton Hotel on Saturday night at a charity ball in memory of the late Paul McBride QC – which raised more than £100,000 for the anti-sectarianism charity Nil by Mouth and Yorkhill Children's Hospital – to attending the Scottish Baftas on Sunday at the Radisson Blu Hotel.

I was delighted to see Angels' Share's Paul Brannigan pick up the Scottish Bafta for Best Actor. He seems a really lovely guy and was truly inspirational during this year's STV Appeal which raised more than £2 million for children living in poverty in Scotland.

Another winner on the night was Scottish comedy legend Billy Connolly, who was honoured for his Outstanding Contribution to TV and Film.

The Big Yin has lots to celebrate this week as he turns The Big Seven-O on Saturday and has five shows in San Francisco and two in New York coming up, backing his claims that he has no intention of retiring just yet – and why should he?

This year alone he's played the role of King Fergus in Pixar's hugely success Brave alongside Oscar winner Emma Thompson , and more recently has been filming scenes for Peter Jackson's The Hobbit in New Zealand, not too shabby for a man who's been in the business for 50 years.

More and more frequently we are seeing middle-aged and older stars enjoying major success in their careers.

Just look at the wonderful Judi Dench and Maggie Smith who are still in great demand on the small and silver screens, and 79-year-old Kay D'Arcy, who has just landed the lead role in a new US martial arts TV Show, Agent 88, as the world's most deadly assassin.

But the age-defying pictures that really caught my eye this week were snaps of a gorgeous 66-year-old Joanna Lumley kissing 38-year-old all-round hottie Leonardo DiCaprio on a park bench in New York.

No, this wasn't the best example of a cougar victory since Demi and Ashton but a scene from the new Martin Scorsese movie due out next year.

Women half Joanna's age would give their right arm for a smooch from DiCaprio, and from the pictures I saw, it looked like he was loving every minute of it.

It's refreshing to see an industry so obsessed with looks and age embrace our more mature stars and, if my calculations are correct, I only need to wait another 34 years to bag a Hollywood hottie myself. Now that is Absolutely Fabulous, dahling.

IF BEYONCE CAN...

IT'S week two of the Pavilion Panto rehearsals for The Wizard of Never Woz and we have managed to complete Act One including all the singing and dancing. Well, I use the term "dancing" extremely loosely when it comes to me, but I can sure shake my bahookie like Beyonce down that yellow brick road, let me tell you. The cast are all very excited about opening night, next Wednesday, especially as we get to perform in front of a live audience night after night all the way through until January 19 ... Oh, yes, we do.
