SCOTTISH Opera is to continue a year of celebrations for its 50th anniversary by making a stop at a community venue in Lanarkshire.

The Glasgow-based company is staging shows around the country to mark its anniversary.

Its Opera Highlights 2013 show will visit Rutherglen Town Hall on Saturday, February 23 at 7.30pm.

A cast of four young singers and a pianist will perform excerpts from favourites, including Bizet's Carmen, Puccini's La bohème and Mozart's Don Giovanni, as well as music by Handel, Rossini, Britten and Strauss.

Performers include Scottish tenor Nicky Spence, a two-time Classical Brit nominee who recently played Tamino in Scottish Opera's The Magic Flute.

Tickets, priced £11, are available from 0141 613 5700.
