IMMEDIATELY after Hogmanay comes a barren period, which is ideal for those in need of a little hibernation, but not so for those of us with permanently itchy feet.

Thankfully, there are a few clubs around who are beginning 2013 with a bang.

Breaking from their traditional Tuesday night slot, the i AM crew bring Big Fun to the Subbie tomorrow.

Subculture's talented youngster Telford is an appropriate headliner: having progressed from glass collector to lighting engineer and now resident spinner at one of the country's biggest house nights, he knows the club inside out.

His deep house and disco should sit nicely next to Slow It Down's reworked soul and funk, while i AM resident Beta warms up with the usual electro and dubstep.

On Tuesday normal service is resumed with Stay Fresh the guests: expect a raucous union of hip hop, house and "face-melting gems" from the Glasgow crew.

Afro Cheetah

In 2012 the residents at La Cheetah warmed up for some of the most credible DJs in the world: without them, a slew of Detroit legends and many more would have made their entrance to an empty dancefloor.

Tomorrow night it's the turn of Dom D'Sylva and Wardy to take the spotlight, while on Saturday Highlife returns with hotly-tipped Londoner Romare.

As with any Highlife guest his music is unique and difficult to label – there's Afrobeat influences in there (he has a release on Black Acre Records titled "Meditations on Afrocentrism") alongside flashes of electro, hip hop and house.

He's joined by Auntie Flo and Esa for another refined night of global grooves.

Just Champion

BEQUIFFED and bespectacled Brightonian Bobby Champs makes his Glasgow debut tomorrow at Chambre 69.

A fast-rising producer of gritty and percussive techno, his Steve Martin EP, released last month, features more of the quirky vocal hooks and galloping rhythms that are gaining admirers so rapidly.

Saturday sees Londoner Duke Dumont joined by residents Thrust Club. Dumont is a firm favourite among those in the know – a "producer's producer" if ever there was one – while Thrust Club bring disco, house and techno to the table.
