THE design entries for the revamp of George Square are varied and interesting and will certainly transform Glasgow's premier civic space.
The consultation has attracted much opinion, not to mention controversy, with many wanting to retain the statues while others question the relevance of such plans to the modern city centre.
But whatever the view, there is now a very important decision to be taken. Because this redesign must be absolutely spot on and not repeat past mistakes, such as the hugely unpopular expanse of red surfacing at the expense of the grassy areas.
The designs incorporate some exciting ideas, with water features and relocation of the statues, and will undoubtedly provoke much discussion when they go on public display.
George Square is a famous landmark worldwide, and with Glasgow about to take centre stage in 2014 with the Commonwealth Games the new-look square will be beamed around the globe on television as an image synonymous with the city.
The wishes of the people of Glasgow must be taken fully into account as George Square has always been an accessible space to be enjoyed by citizens and visitors alike. And it must remain so.
Whichever design is chosen George Square is Glasgow's square ... always has been, always will.
