GRAVEYARDS appear to have an attraction for sick minded vandals who like to carry out their destructive acts in secluded spots.

The Necropolis is a historic Glasgow site and most importantly is the resting place of the dead and as such deserves and demands our respect.

Unfortunately, as we have seen in many other cemeteries across the city the depraved in our society have no such respect and take pleasure in desecrating the graves of the dead.

Thankfully the city council's environmental teams are acting to clean up the obscene graffiti, but what we need is action to stop what is sadly an all to common occurrence, which causes great offence to the majority of citizens.

It is not only our city centre and streets in our community that we want to keep clean for the living, but our resting places for the dead should be afforded at least the same status

There is no justification for damaging a graveyard, no excuse acceptable and no mitigation is permissible for this macabre form of vandalism.

If there is mechanisms for identifying the culprits, possibly via CCTV in surrounding areas to spot people entering the Necropolis then it should be used to help see these monumental morons brought to book.
