IT is fair to say pretty much everyone in Glasgow knows someone who has been affected by cancer and the heartbreak it causes.
However the good news is that most people probably also know someone who is helping do something about it, by taking part in fund-raising efforts such as the Race for Life.
The women-only event returns to the city streets again this year with record numbers expected to sign up and play their part in fighting a disease that has taken the lives of too many in this city.
The event has a double benefit for Glasgow, as well as raising vital funds it encourages women to get fit and take part in a non-competitive run, without the need to worry about personal bests or struggling to finish as many walk or jog slowly round the three mile course.
With the women's 10k attracting a new sponsor and the Men's 10k saved for another year the city's fitness calendar is looking healthy once again.
If you did the Race for Life in previous years it is time to get the trainers and tutu out again for another fun day out and encourage a friend to take part to boost numbers and raise even more cash for Cancer Research UK.
If you've never ran it before then think about signing up for a good cause and improve your health while you do.
