OUR Glasgow Community Champion awards entered their fifth year with the first ceremony of 2013 last night and picked up where last year left off.

Year after year, all across the city, we have been privileged to honour those in our communities who are working to improve the city.

Last night proved no different with the people of the east of the city turning out in Bridgeton to recognise their own champions across many communities.

We saw young people working on projects in schools and senior citizens who have been giving their time effort and experience for many a year.

Not forgetting those working in the uniformed services, who help ensure our homes, streets and communities are safe and clean to live and work in.

They all proved worthy of their nominations showing once more that Glasgow is home to an unbeatable community spirit that endures through the generations.

The Evening Times is proud to be a part of the awards with our partners Glasgow City Council, GHA, Strathclyde Police, Community Planning Partnership and Strathclyde Fire and Rescue.

Well done to all who were named Community Champions and good luck in the Grand Final later this year once all of our local finals have been contested.
