ALL children regardless of whether they have been in care or not need stability and security in their lives.
The fact that some can be waiting four years to have a decision made on their future is doing nothing to help them lead a normal happy childhood.
Obviously it will take time for procedures to be followed to try to ensure the best outcome but meantime the child is left in a sort of limbo, while others attempt to determine what is best.
Child abuse and child protection issues are by no means unique to Glasgow, but given the population size the city is ideal for a programme to help speed up where possible a conclusion for the good of the child.
The pilot run by NSPCC has already helped many families in the city and the funding boost will hopefully help many others benefit.
If families need support and time to be able to have their child returned to them it must be given and it has been proven to be better for the child to be in one stable place rather than be moved around a succession of Foster carers.
The ultimate goal is what is best for the child and in reaching that decision it is imperative that the procedures do not inadvertently damage the child.
Hopefully this will help more children and their families have a future.
