THE Glasgow Music Festival drew to a close with its grand finale on Saturday night.

More than 7000 young performers took part in the event over the past two weeks. Held across six city venues, youngsters performed in music, speech, drama and dance.

In the final round of results, the Agnes Duncan Trophy for Vocal Soloists and the Soroptimists International Award was won by Eva Macfarlane, who sang Che Faro Senza Euridice by Gluck.

The Hugh S Roberton Memorial Trophy for the most outstanding solo performer under 14 years of age was won by accordionist Ryan Corbett, playing The Headlands by Ronnie Cooper, The Laird of Drumblair by J. Scott Skinner and Jean's Reel by Bob Macleod. Ryan also won the Glasgow Orpheus Choir Trust Scholarship.

Pianist Liana Storey, 10, won the Christopher and Maureen Hopkinson Award for the most promising performer of Primary School age for her performance of Sonata in C, K279 (mvt 3) by Mozart.

The winner of the Ellis Trophy for solo verse speaking was Rachael Syme for her rendition of A Mile An' A Bittock by R L Stevenson.

The Ailie Cullen Memorial Prize and John Fyfe trophy for the most outstanding performance at the Festival was won by Laura Ayoub, violinist, who played Zigeunerweisen op 20 by Pablo Sarasate.
