TODAY'S picture should really be titled A Tale of Two Cities.
Taken on Glasgow Green in 1958, it reveals a class divide which still exists in our so-called egalitarian Glasgow.
In the foreground, the boys of Glasgow's public schools prepare to do battle in a rowing race while, on the south bank of the Clyde, the blackened tenements and factories of old Hutchesontown loom like a scene from a Dickens novel.
The elegant turrets you see belonged to the United Co-op Bakery Society factory.
Soon, they would be swept away as the tower blocks of the new Hutchesontown reached skywards.
Today, the McNeil Street site is home to flats and a grain distillery.
Meanwhile, rowers still scull along the Clyde from these steps.
