THERE'S every chance the newborn baby in the cot has been told this story a time or two - the day the Queen Mother came to visit as she toured the brand new Queen Mother maternity hospital named after her in Glasgow.

Lorna Jean Donaldson of Paisley was just three days old and fast asleep, so she missed all the excitement but her proud mum and her royal visitor both look very pleased with the new arrival.

The Yorkhill hospital was one of the most modern maternity facilities in Europe when it opened in 1964.

The Queen Mother personally suggested the name and she officially opened it on September 23 that year. Its life as a maternity hospital came to an end in 2010 in a major revamp of health services in the city.
