I am not one for sticking to one brand, and I'm not one for sticking to one foundation either.

My skin changes according to the seasons, my skin care routine and how stressed I am! That said, I always have one eye on foundations, and the latest one to add to my must have list, alongside my all time favourite low-budget buy, Bourjous Healthy Mix Radiance Foundation, is Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation. It's one of the first products I've tried for the brand that's popular with celebs such as Sienna Miller and Lilly Allen and whose products were used on Beyonce's dancers during one of her massive tours.

I purchased this from the lovely, and very friendly girls at the Illamasqua counter in Debenham's St. Enoch Centre. Having applied it to my skin in-store, I was quite quickly impressed and treated myself to a bottle (for research and blogging purposes, obviously!) I'm not going to waste too much of your lovely time rambling on, so I'll get on to why I think it's a great foundation and why you might love it too.

Coverage

This offers coverage that can be tailored to you. Use a small amount for a light coverage, or build for medium to full coverage. At £27, it's priced competitively with other more premium brands but with a little going a long way, I'd still say it's a reasonable buy. I also felt there was no need for primer with this and I didn't need much in the way of concealer either.

Look

I was looking for a natural look, especially as I'm trying and sampling this with a view to introducing it in to my professional kit, and I mostly do bridal work. I didn't want cakey-ness, or anything too matt, or too dewy, and this delivered a perfect combination of both. It kept my skin looking natural, giving it light and glow, but still offered enough coverage to cover redness and imperfections. It's definitely called Skin Base for a reason, because it certainly makes you look like you just have great skin with no makeup. There's no SPF, so it'll look great in photos and on film, which is another bonus point for making it a foundation to wear on special occasions where you may be photographed.

Texture

It's smooth enough to be easy to work with and blend, without being so runny that it's wet or sticky. It's easy to apply with fingers or brush and in general smooths on to skin very well. It smooths and softens your skin beautifully. I can imagine it'll be good for all skin types and ages.

You'll love it if...

You love your skin to look beautiful and flawless without a heavy, matt foundation.

You like to have light coverage during day, and perhaps build coverage up for nights out or occasions.

Thinking you may want to try it? Think about taking a trip to Illamasqua Debenhams (St. Enoch Centre, Glasgow), this Sunday, March 2.
