LONGER days and bursts of sunshine only mean one thing:

it's time to spring clean your make-up bag.

Trusty colours that saw you through the long winter months are just too dark and dull now. If you're looking for inspiration, head to the Spring Fashion Fix at Debenhams, Silverburn, on April 17.

As well as a fashion show highlighting new season trends, the beauty department is offering free colour fix consultations. Pick up a discount book from the mall which also includes offers exclusive to Silverburn, including 20% off at Hobbs, 20% off at H&M and 25% off at Arran Aromatics.

"Sometimes customers can feel a bit intimidated coming into a beauty hall so this will give us an opportunity to be out there in the mall meeting them," explains the store's health and beauty sales manager, Angela Duckworth.

Highlights on counter for spring include Dior's Fluid Stick. Neither a gloss nor a lipstick, it is a very wearable fluid you can barely feel but combines maximum colour and glossy shine. It is available at the moment exclusively in Debenhams in 16 shades.

One of the newest brands in the store is Giorgio Armani and the skin highlighter in the Belladonna palette is a must-have. The buildable radiance enhances the natural colour of the cheeks while adding luminosity.

Catwalk trends for this season were all about flawless skin and barely there make-up. Bobbi Brown's classic Skin Foundation Stick has been updated with a transparent base plus skin tone correct pigments for an incredibly natural look.

Perfect for all skin types, the creamy yet weightless texture blends seamlessly so it perfectly mimics the look of healthy skin.

If you want to add bright, fresh colour to the eyes, try Urban Decay's Electric Pressed Pigment Palette. These 10 versatile, creamy pressed pigments create a multitude of looks from bold, bright kaleidoscopic eyes, to a subtle flush of colour on the cheek.

"When I first saw it I thought, how will that be worn?" says Angela. "The colours are so bright. But when the girls show you how to put it on, the eye make up is amazing. It's that creativeness that inspires our customers."

For fans of the latest craze for multi-functional products, CK One's make up range has introduced a three-in-one concealer that is a corrector, primer and illuminator in one handy pen. "It's a really light formula that is buildable so you can use it throughout the day to touch up and brighten the skin. Great for blemishes and tired under eyes."

Skin finishers, BB and CC creams aren't just for the face, according to Angela. She suggests trying Vita Liberata's Capture the Light Collection, which includes illuminating skin finishers with opaque or translucent coverage which can be used on their own or to accentuate a natural bronze tan.

And she recommends Philosophy's new Time in a Bottle with high potency vitamin C. "The serum contains a DAN renewal complex so it promotes healthy skin renewal, and it smells amazing. My skin is firmer, smoother and looks instantly brighter when I use it."

Get your body prepped for summer with a good quality body scrub, it improves circulation, helps skin look and feel better and gets rid of dead skin cells which makes skin appear dull.

"The Himalaya Scrub from Rituals is velvety soft and the cooling formula smells amazing. It's from the ayurveda range which is all about restoring harmony to the body in a natural way. It's like a spa treatment at home."

With skin prepped, apply Fake Bake's Face Platinum lotion, which contains anti-ageing ingredients found in apple stem cells that are proven to boost production of new skin while protecting the skin from stress and reducing wrinkles. Use it at night instead of night cream and wake up with a holiday glow.

Even if you're not heading off to the sun anytime soon, spritz on a bit of sunshine with Tom Ford Neroli Portofino. Inspired by the resort town on the Italian Riviera, the range of luxury body products are infused with the vibrant citrus oils, floral notes and amber undertones of the original fragrance.
