ANDERSTON lost more than its old tenements and closes when the area was redeveloped in the early 1970s.
It also lost many of its pubs.
Ruxton's Bar, in Elderslie Street, seen here in 1971, had been serving whisky, beer and porter to thirsty locals since 1867.
Thankfully, due to an eagle-eyed antiques dealer, the bar interior was to enjoy a second life... as a TV star in the United States.
Rather than let the bulldozers destroy the fine Victorian gantry, advertising mirrors and curved bar, Lanarkshire man Tony Kierney snapped up the interior, lock, stock and beer-barrel and sold them as a set to a TV studio in California.
So, the next time you see a bar scene in a Hollywood movie, take a closer look, it just might be Ruxton's.
