Squaring up to all-day drinking
BAD perm and mouser combo?
Check. Old boy in a bunnet checking the racing pages? Check. Couple of underagers hiding in a corner? Check.
The Square Peg, in St Enoch Square, was far from busy on the day our photographers visited to gauge customer reaction to the introduction of all-day drinking.
The year was 1978 and gone were the dry afternoons, with pubs shutting between 2.30pm and 5pm. Now you could drink from 11am to 11pm.
Scotland had qualified for the World Cup in Argentina, and half the menfolk of the country had gone to the hairdressers for a 'World Cup' perm.
Sadly, once the competition kicked off, rather than celebrating, the pubs were full of Tartan Army fans drowning their sorrows.
