LAST year it was a sell-out success and this year The Vintage Festival is set to be bigger and better than before.

Organised as part of the Merchant City Festival by style gurus Wayne and Gerardine Hemingway, the pair had just one word for the summer event - more.

Wayne said: "Last summer we learned that Glasgow folk know how to party and in this special summer for the city we are expanding Vintage Glasgow in the knowledge that it's time to turn up the partying a notch or two.

"So there are more vintage dance classes, more vintage traders, more entertainment and more nightclubs."

Wayne and Gerardine were in Glasgow to launch their festival and brought 1950s' flair to new vintage-themed venue, Wild Cabaret, as they unveiled the programme.

Dance teachers from the Rock Till U Drop dance academy showed off their moves while DJs Tojo and Keb Darge spun some vinyl to give a flavour of 'Let it Rock', one of the Vintage clubs that will take place this July.

Vintage will take place in the streets and venues across the Merchant City on July 26 and 27, the middle weekend of Festival 2014.

It will transform Candle-riggs, the Old Fruitmarket, Merchant Square and Wild Cabaret.

Councillor Gordon Matheson, chairman of the Merchant City Festival, said: "We are delighted to welcome Vintage back to Merchant City Festival.

"Festival 2014, the massive cultural celebr-ation running alongside the sporting action of the Commonwealth Games, will demonstrate Glasgow's ability to deliver a world-class cultural programme.

"As such the festival has expanded from five days and will amaze and engage visitors for 11 days.

"It has been wonderful to hear more of the exciting events that will take place during Vintage, whether your thing is swing, rockabilly, soul or disco, or if you just want to dress up and get an authentic make-over for a day, Vintage is certain to delight."

Details of the club events unveiled include the 1950s Let It Rock extended to nine hours; The Charleston Brunch from the 1920s; and The Devils Music club covering the 1960s to 80s.

For fashion there is the coveted Best in Show public Fashion Parade, the Marketplace with around 50 stalls, hands-on creative workshops and a Vintage hair and beauty salon.
