YOU can almost smell the wood shavings and engine oil in this evocative picture of the woodworking shop at the old Allan Glen's School in Glasgow.
The Townhead school was established in 1853 "to give a good practical education and preparation for trades or businesses, to between forty to fifty boys, the sons of tradesmen or persons in the industrial classes of society".
The school's emphasis on science and engineering led to it becoming, in effect, Glasgow's High School of Science.
Listed amongst the school's famous old boys are architect and designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh, actors Duncan Macrae and Dirk Bogarde and musician and broadcaster Robin Hall.
The school finally closed in 1989.
