WITH the news this week that Sir Cliff Richard is to play a free concert in New York, today we Move It back to 1959, when his female fans caused a right rammy outside the Glasgow Empire.
It was 19-year-old Cliff's first visit to Glasgow, and the first time the local polis had had to deal with screaming rock 'n' roll fans. They even called in Military Police, in the city to cover a visit by then Prime Minister Harold Macmillan, to hold the line outside the theatre.
Meanwhile, inside his dressing room, Cliff was busy meeting and greeting four young Evening Times competition winners, inset.
Little did the cops or these girls realise that, 55 years later, Harry Webb (that's his real name) would be Big Apple-bound, and his Shadows guitarist, Hank Marvin, now 72, would be releasing a new album.
