MARCO PIERRE White is to open his first Glasgow eaterie in a city hotel.

The restaurant, which will be the celebrity chef's second Scottish venture, is set to open in Hotel Indigo in August.

The Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar & Grill will be on the ground floor of the new hotel and the chef has vowed to offer diners his own style of "affordable glamour".

Marco Pierre White said: "It's been a long time in the planning, but I'm absolutely delighted to open my first city centre restaurant in Glasgow - a city that I love.

"Glasgow has a vibrant dining scene and I look forward to offering Glaswegians a taste of something a little bit different; my recipe for 'affordable glamour' which is all about serving quality food at affordable prices.

"It isn't about Michelin standard food, which for most is experienced as a one-off or for a very special occasion. The Steakhouse Bar & Grill will cater for different budgets with a very reasonably set-priced menu to our delicious steaks which will sit at the higher price range of the menu.

"I hope the restaurant will be a place for restaurant goers to return again and again."

The 52-year-old chef is the latest in a string of celebrities to open in Glasgow - Antonio Carluccio opened his Carluccio's restaurant on West Nile Street in 2011, 18 months after Jamie Oliver's venture in George Square was launched.

Fiery chef White is famous for his contribution to international cookery, and currently runs his own Dumfries-based restaurant Wheeler's.

His new Glasgow venture will be based in the Hotel Indigo in the city's Waterloo Street.

Denis MacCann, General Manager of Hotel Indigo said: "We're delighted to be partnering with Marco to open the Steakhouse Bar & Grill at Hotel Indigo. We have a great dining scene in Glasgow and this new venture is only going to enhance what we offer."
