IN 1849 when James Arthur & Sir Hugh Fraser opened a drapery shop at the corner of Argyle Street and Buchanan Street, who would have thought 165 years on House of Fraser would emerge as Glasgow's original fashion heritage store.

And also been seen as the birthplace of a national brand that now boasts 60 stores and stocks a wealth of designers of global importance.

House of Fraser has long had a store at the heart of the city, and over the decades it has rightly staked its claim as a leader in spotting trends not to mention in recent years building a steady reputation of celebrating and boosting home grown talent on their own turf.

To celebrate Homecoming Scotland 2014, House of Fraser has once more shown its support of Scottish talent by asking five established designers from the arenas of womenswear, accessories and menswear to host 'pop-up' shops featuring product designed especially for and sold exclusively in the original and best House of Fraser between July 17 and August 4.

'Bringing Fashion Home' designers include Rebecca Torres and Georgia Wiseman, who have excitingly embarked upon a joint collaborative body of work.

Rebecca says of her collaboration with Wiseman: "We have admired each other's work for some time now, so collaborating seemed like a natural process for us.

"Having the opportunity to showcase our work in such an iconic store as House of Fraser, which is steeped in history and style, is a huge honour."

Jewellery designer Georgia is no less enthusiastic in recounting her response at being asked to take part.

She said: "I jumped at the chance. There's not enough big brands with the foresight to give young designers a break and it's brilliant that the Glasgow store has championed Scottish based designers who don't forget their roots in the city."

Their co-designed T-shirts and sweaters feature elements of their signature styles and are sure to fly off the rails as soon as they hit the shop floor.

Rebecca Torres fans will also want to note that the collection will feature two limited edition dresses from the designer that will also be available in store for the duration of the project.

In the world of accessories luxury handbags and accessories, label Strathberry of Scotland has designed two bags for the 'Bringing Fashion Home' collection and Guy Hundleby, managing director of Strathberry of Scotland, is clearly enthusiastic about the project.

She said: "It's innovative of House of Fraser to support and promote established Scottish designers and to remind people out there that House of Fraser began in Glasgow over 150 years ago.

"Establishing 'Bringing Fashion Home' during a momentous time for the city with lots of tourists is set to give a sure fire boost to young Scottish design talent."

A sentiment echoed by scarf designer Karen Mabon who has designed a limited edition silk scarf for the project and is effusive in her praise for 'Bringing Fashion Home'.

She said: "I'm delighted to be working with House of Fraser on this amazing project - it's so encouraging to receive such support from a prestigious department store.

"For House of Fraser to allow our products to sit alongside premium brands in the luxury fashion accessories department just goes to show how much they value the Scottish fashion industry."

Alan Moore, designer for ten30 the artisanal menswear brand, will add to his made-to-order Gentleman's attire brand by releasing a collectable branded ten30 T-shirt as part of 'Bringing Fashion Home'.

Says Alan of the prospect of working and showing in House of Fraser: " This is a fantastic opportunity not just for myself and my brand, ten30, but for Glasgow. As a fashion forward city and at a time when the eyes of the world will be upon us, this showcase of contemporary design will highlight just how strong and important Scotland is to the fashion industry.

"House of Fraser's respect and appreciation for heritage and history is more than matched by their dedication to innovation."

Highly covetable the 'Bringing Fashion Home' collection is yet another reason to flock to Glasgow's Style Mile in the next few weeks and represents a golden opportunity to support and celebrate up and coming Scottish designers, back where it all began.
