WITH their swinging kilts, oversized sporrans and jauntily tilted Tam o' Shanters this pipe band may look run of the mill, but look closer and you'll notice that they are all women.
The Coatbridge Ladies Pipe Band were dressed up in all their finery in 1938 to help open The Empire Exhibition in Bellahouston Park.
Much like this year's Commonwealth Games, when the world's spotlight was turned on Glasgow, everybody wanted to be involved in the show and, from the opening day to the closing night, the city put on a brilliant show.
Sadly, the only one not to play nice was Mother Nature, with the seven-month show experiencing one of the wettest summers on record. Despite the downpours, more than 12m people visited the event.
