Bored of vanilla and chocolate ice cream? A parlour in St Andrews has created a seaweed flavoured frozen treat that won plenty of fans over the weekend.
Janettas Gelateria is offering a new ice cream mixed with chocolate, green tea, lemon and seaweed harvested from the Fife coast less than 500 metres away from the shop.
The ice cream is being sold at £1.60 a scoop after it was debuted at the exotic new product at the Crail Food Festival last weekend.
The shop teamed up with Mara Seaweed, whose team of workers wait until the tide is low to collect the ingredient, hang it out to dry and then mill it into flakes before they swirl it into ice cream.
The ground up algae is known as 'Shony', and is usually used to replace salt and sprinkled over meat and fish dishes.
