"I'm. So. Bored," shrieked the Moll from her boudoir.

"You never take me anywhere exciting these days."

And this, just days after I surprised her with a trip upstate to Big Sue's tupperware shindig.

Some folks are never happy. But to keep Blondie sweet, I agreed to give her a taste of the Far East without cashing in my air miles.

I revved up the Buick and we headed for Great Western Road to Wudon, a noodle and sushi bar that serves up a mixture of Chinese, Japanese and Thai food.

If that wasn't enough choice for Toots, I thought, then we are heading for the divorce courts.

The diner was launched by two sisters, Jenny and Anna Wu, who took inspiration from their mum's cooking and food from their travels in the far East.

Casing the joint's clientel, it's clear that the food is hitting the right notes with Glasgow's Chinese population.

It didn't take much detective work to figure out that was a good sign.

The decor is clean, bright and simple but the choice on the menu is anything but.

There is a whole section devoted to sushi with another part devoted to fresh and raw food.

Bento lunch boxes are also available and there is a set menu of miniature portions to keep the ankle biters at heel.

I opted for the Saw Choi Tempura of aubergine, sweet potato, mushroom, asparagus.

Accompanied by Japanese soba noodles in tempura batter, it was outta sight good. The veg tasted fresh and the tempura was light and crunchy.

The Moll made a beeline for the sushi section of the menu having developed a bit of a thing recently for raw fish.

She plumped for four pieces of salmon wrapped in rice and seaweed and declared it divine.

For main she picked out one of Wudon’s specialities - a big fried noodle plate with chicken and straw mushrooms.

It was certainly big.

In fact, it looked like something Toots would climb into rather than eat.

It must have packed a punch on the flavour front though because she made light work of her mountain of tasty noodles, fresh vegetables and tender chicken.

"Wow" she sighed as the last mouthful disappeared down her cake hole, helping herself to another glass of Sauv Blanc to wash it all down.

With prices averaging £8.50 for a main, the food was reasonably priced for the quality and the portions.

The staff were friendly and helpful but never intrusive.

I was in a fiery mood after the Moll's moaning so I opted for the Katsu Ga Lay Fan, prawns served in Japanese breadcrumbs served with mild curry on a bed of boiled rice.

It's good, so good, I was in danger of having no room for dessert.

And the desserts had already caught my eye.

With choices including Coco Banana and apple and cinnamon tempura, it was difficult to choose but we opted for fight over the pear pieces in a crispy toffee and sesame seed shell, served with vanilla ice cream.

It was lovely, just enough to satisfy my sugar cravings and light enough that the buick wouldn't need a tow home.
